Welcome to
Micro Nano Sensor Group

We are located at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Bari, Italy and our research covers such diverse areas as Electronics, Photonics, and sensor technology.

The group carries out research into novel electronic and photonic sensors at micro- and nano-scale as well as miniaturized sensor-based embedded electronic systems.

There is an increasing demand in today’s society for practically invisible and intangible sensors enabling smart interaction between electronic systems and the world outside. The group aims to address this demand by developing and disseminating cutting-edge science in the areas of chip-scale sensors and sensing technologies, so as to place humanity at the center of an increasingly digital society.

Active Research Projects

Resonant Nanophotonic Structures & Metasurfaces

We conceive, design, experimentally demonstrate, and validate high‑Q all‑dielectric metasurfaces and other resonant nanophotonic devices to enhance light–matter interaction for label‑free sensing and functional imaging. Work spans quasi‑BIC modes, spectral

Integrated Silicon Photonic Platforms for Sensing

Using SOI and silicon‑nitride platforms, we develop photonic integrated circuits and devices—microrings, slot waveguides, interferometers—with engineered dispersion, low loss, and robust packaging. Activities cover device/circuit co‑design with analog/digital readout, calibration
